Great Central Upper Peninsula Fishing Lakes

Click on the Lake Name for a detailed map

Lake Superior (Marquette Harbor)
Lower Harbor is excellent fishing for Lake Trout, Coho, King Salmon and Steelhead in the early spring and fall. Brown Trout, Northern Pike and Walleye can also be found in the warmer water areas. During the summer on calm days Lake Trout fishing is great off of Presque Isle in the Upper Harbor. Most fish are caught by trolling with downriggers.
Big Bay Harbor is also an excellent choice for trolling for trout and salmon.

Lake Michigan ( Little Bay de Noc)
World renowned for Walleye. Northern Pike, and Smallmouth are also here in excellent numbers. Best launches from Gladstone and Kipling.

Lake Independence ( Big Bay)
1800 Acres. Access from Perkins Park. Great Boat Ramp and Fish Cleaning Station.
Camping at Perkins Park. Walleye, Northern Pike, Smallmouth, Perch. Some very large Northerns. Bowl shaped lake. Best to fish in low light levels. Fish along the weed beds for Pike and Walleye. Smallmouth casting great in the stumps. Yellow Dog River mouth great fishing area. Trolling Perch and Silver Rapalas works well. Has Cisco forage base. Thus, the silver lures. Crawler harnesses work well too.

Lake Michigamme (Michigamme)
3300 Acres with many islands and rocky shoals. Very beautiful lake with camping at the Van Riper State Park, Michigamme Shores Campground, and the Maple Ridge Resort.
Walleye, Northern Pike, Smallmouth, Muskie, Lake Trout, Panfish. Good fishing in the daylight hours as the water is stained as most Canadian lakes and dark in color. Live Bait works well. Use jointed Rapalas.

Craig Lake (Baraga County)
Remote lake that is part of the Van Riper State Park. No motors of any kind. No live bait.
Canoes and Kayaks. Many camping spots. One of the most beautiful spots in the Upper Peninsula. We recommend highly if you like solitude. Walleye, Northern Pike, Muskie, Smallmouth, Perch.

Squaw Lake (Marquette County)
Great fishing lake with multiple species due to boat shallow and deep water. Rainbows, Splake, Brook Trout, Walleye, Northern Pike, Smallmouth.
