
Great Central Upper Peninsula Fishing Lakes

Lake Superior (Marquette Harbor)
Lower Harbor is excellent fishing for Lake Trout, Coho, King Salmon and
Steelhead in the early spring and fall. Brown Trout, Northern Pike and Walleye
can also be found in the warmer water areas. During the summer on calm days
Lake Trout fishing is great off of Presque Isle in the Upper Harbor. Most
fish are caught by trolling with downriggers.
Big Bay Harbor is also an excellent choice for trolling for trout and salmon.
Lake Michigan ( Little Bay de Noc)
World renowned for Walleye. Northern Pike, and Smallmouth are also here
in excellent numbers. Best launches from Gladstone and Kipling.
Lake Independence ( Big Bay)
1800 Acres. Access from Perkins Park. Great Boat Ramp and Fish Cleaning
Station.
Camping at Perkins Park. Walleye, Northern Pike, Smallmouth, Perch. Some
very large Northerns. Bowl shaped lake. Best to fish in low light levels.
Fish along the weed beds for Pike and Walleye. Smallmouth casting great
in the stumps. Yellow Dog River mouth great fishing area. Trolling Perch
and Silver Rapalas works well. Has Cisco forage base. Thus,the silver lures.
Crawler harnesses work well too.
Lake Michigamme (Michigamme)
3300 Acres with many islands and rocky shoals. Very beautiful lake with
camping at the Van Riper State Park, Michigamme Shores Campground, and the
Maple Ridge Resort.
Walleye, Northern Pike, Smallmouth, Muskie, Lake Trout, Panfish. Good fishing
in the daylight hours as the water is stained as most Canadian lakes and
dark in color. Live Bait works well. Use jointed Rapalas.
Craig Lake (Baraga County)
Remote lake that is part of the Van Riper State Park. No motors of any kind.
No live bait.
Canoes and Kayaks. Many camping spots. One of the most beautiful spots in
the Upper Peninsula. We recommend highly if you like solitude. Walleye,
Northern Pike, Muskie, Smallmouth, Perch.
Squaw Lake (Marquette County)
Great fishing lake with multiple species due to boat shallow and deep water.
Rainbows, Splake, Brook Trout, Walleye, Northern Pike, Smallmouth.
Witch Lake (Marquette County)
208 Acres. Shallow and deep spots. Lake trout, brown trout, walleyes, rock
bass, yellow perch, small & large mouth bass, muskellunge, northern
pike, rock bass.
